Ipswich —
A group of 12 local women are teaming up on Sept. 18 to run the Reach the Beach Relay in New Hampshire.
“Moms on the Run” has been training since late spring and collectively have run over 3,000 miles in preparation for this daunting 200 mile relay over the mountainous New Hampshire terrain.
The 24-hour race begins in Franconia Notch and ends at Hampton Beach and each runner will complete three legs with averaging totals of 16.6 miles each. Some of those legs will be run during the middle of the night.
Some of the team members have been running over 20 years, while one member just started running this year. A combination of stay-at-home moms, and part-time and full-time working moms, the training has been a great source of camaraderie and inspiration (not to mention fitness) for this group of women. Together, they have 28 children in total under the age of 7, keeping them on the run most days.
Although the race itself has no charity requirement, the team is using their participation as an opportunity to raise funds for two local programs — The Birth to Three Center in Ipswich and the Essex Women’s Fund. The Essex Women’s Fund is a non-profit grant-making fund dedicated to increasing resources, expanding opportunities and promoting positive social change for women and girls (Web: www.eccf.org/womensfund56.html).
THANK YOU MOMS ON THE RUN!!!
