Events

The Women’s Fund events are celebrations of the collective power of women’s philanthropy. Women are the heart of the community and when we gather together the bonds that unite us are strong. Philanthropy happens in so many ways—giving of spirit, of time and energy, of wealth and inspiration. Those we serve inspire us with their strength in overcoming obstacles to achieve their goals. The Women’s Fund is more than a grantmaker; it is a collective spirit that generates awareness, caring and community.

Power of the Purse

Thursday May 11, 6:30-8:30pm
Please join us for a delightful evening of purses, hors d'oeuvres, wine and friends at this spirited event inspired by the Victor Hugo quote, “As the purse is emptied, the heart is filled”. The Power of the Purse party celebrates the power of women-led philanthropy by raffling beautiful bags, generously donated by individuals and businesses, to raise funds to support nonprofit programs helping to change the lives of women and girls at risk in our communities.

Grant Awards Luncheon

Our Annual Grant Awards Luncheon gives us the opportunity to recognize the agencies we fund for their outstanding programs on behalf of women and girls. This year we funded $280,000 in grants to 23 nonprofit programs in Essex County. These programs address critical points of intervention in the lives of women and girls that create sustainable change for each individual. We are proud to support such outstanding work.

This year’s Luncheon, held on October 20, 2016, featured keynote speaker Jennifer Siebel Newsom, an award-winning documentary filmmaker and women’s advocate. Jennifer is the writer, director and producer of two critically acclaimed documentaries, both of which premiered at Sundance Film Festival. Miss Representation explores how the media have contributed to the underrepresentation of women in positions of power, and The Mask You Live In highlights the struggle of men and boys to conform to American ideals of masculinity. Jennifer is a leading voice on behalf of women, and we are very excited that she will be joining us. You can learn more about what Jen offers by viewing her TEDx talk, Re-envisioning Women as Leaders: How the Media Can Help.

Community Volunteer Days

From time to time we participate in projects that enable us to extend our community support beyond our grant awards, or to respond to an urgent need.  Most recently, we have worked with the Merrimack Valley Habitat for Humanity to help build homes for single-mother families in Lawrence.  Please see our Get Involved page if you would like to volunteer!
